I read this statement over and over as one word, ‘own’ continually leapt off the page. I asked myself, “Do I really own my own thoughts?” Am I taking responsibility for all of my thoughts? Am I intentionally choosing my thoughts today to shape the future I desire? Have I honestly taken control of my future?
In many ways I am intentional about my thoughts, however after asking myself the following eight questions, I realized I am still driven more by my habits and beliefs than by intentional thinking. Each day I become curious about which thoughts I am not controlling. Each day I get a little better at being the builder of my destiny.
- Do Your Think Your Own Thoughts?
- Do You Get Angry?
- Do You Criticize?
- Do You Have Any Ill Feelings toward Another Person?
- Is There Anyone Whom You Cannot Forgive?
- Do You Give Into Conflicting Influences?
- Are You Irritable
- Are You Wide-awake, Calm, and Happy at all Times, Under All Conditions?
What did you discover about yourself as you answered these 8 questions? Which question triggered the realization for you that perhaps there were some thoughts you have not yet taken control of?
The extent to which a person can find peace and happiness depends on his beliefs and habits. Once we bring our beliefs to the surface, into our awareness, we can expose their false nature. We can then begin to own our thinking, be the master of our thoughts.
We have all heard the expression, whether you think you can or your think you can’t you will be right. Be intensely curious about what you believe and why you believe what you believe. Ask yourself how that belief is helping you achieve your dreams? If it isn’t, get rid of it immediately. Find just one piece of evidence that it is a lie and it will go up in smoke. Belief there is at least one piece of evidence that will pop into your mind that proves it is not a 100% truth, grab it and embrace its truth.
Tips for shaping your new belief:
1) be grateful for all you have and all you are becoming
2) speak aloud, multiple times a day, your new belief about yourself , I AM …
3) take at least one new action each day to reinforce your new belief.
REPEAT steps 1 – 3 until you own it with all your heart and mind.
