I was 13 the first time I laid eyes on him. His dark brown eyes, his calming presence, and his funny southern drawl where just a bit of what intrigued me about this quiet handsome young man. We started to “go out” at 15 and I noticed a consistent and rare treasure deep in his core.
36 years ago today Randy and I said ‘I DO” and ‘till death do we part’. (I shake my head in awe of the many times I unintentional gave him opportunities to choose).
Too young? Absolutely. Naïve? For Sure.
Like today, the statistics were not in our favor, 50% of all marriages ended in divorce. BUT we were in LOVE ;0) and we have parents who laid a great foundation for us. Our parents have been married over sixty years and growing closer each year.
We knew only ONE thing about marriage: FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION.
Fortunately for me, the greatest characteristic Randy possesses is LOYALTY. I saw it when we were young, I experienced it when I wasn’t very lovable, and I witness it daily as he tirelessly serves those he loves and admires most.
Randy is one of the rare men who models what King Solomon advises in his Proverbs.
“Don’t lose your grip on Love and Loyalty. Tie them around your neck; carve their initials on your heart. Earn a reputation for living well in God’s eyes and the eyes of the people.”
He has given me THE PRICELESS GIFT of LOYALTY:
1) Security in knowing I am free to be all GOD created me to be
2) Security in knowing what unconditional love feels like
3) Security in having a home free of judgment
4) Security in knowing I am more than enough
Randy Parker, you have the strength very few men have, the strength to be loyal, to see what only GOD sees when the rest of the world may grow weary and impatient, to love unconditionally.
Thank you for THE PRICELESS GIFT of LOYALTY
